Orkut Added SMS Notification for Scraps!

Orkut launched one of the most awaited feature – Notification via SMS. This feature let you receive new scrap notifications, get friend info, and more from your mobile device.

Just go to http://www.orkut.co.in/MobileSetupSettings.aspx and you will see option to specify your mobile number to receive notifications.

Also check out SMS commands page for SMS orkutting. I think SMS command will work only in Brazil.

As of now this new feature is available in India and Brazil only. Moreover in India, only Aircel, BPL, MTNL, Reliance, Spice and Tata networks are supported. This is really bad news for me as I use Airtel & BSNL.

Do not forget to check price details for your carrier as this service may cost you some bucks.

Try Orkut ‘View Conversation’ feature

This is another most wanted feature which I had in list for my Orkut usage. Many times you reply to a person but since they replied a long time back it becomes difficult to track down what did they say and what you had been asking. In short â€œThe conversationâ€ like one we have in Gmail was missing till now.

Orkut seems to have added this and its like the threaded discussion in forums. You can view all the details of your conversation when you click on View conversation link on a scrap.

MySpace Introducing Streaming Videos on Mobile Phones

MySpace Mobile users across the globe will now be able to enjoy MySpace video content from their video enabled mobile devices.

The first social portal to launch video streaming for mobile, MySpaceâ€™s beta mobile video, will allow users to view videos they’ve uploaded or have marked as a favorite.

John Faith, vice president and general manager of Mobile for MySpace, said, “Video is a natural next step for us in mobile. MySpace will continue to grow our video library as we increase delivery channels in order to keep pace with our usersâ€™ accelerating desire for video consumption.”

To meet video demand, MySpace utilizes RipCodeâ€™s On-Demand Video Transcoding technology to optimize mobile video delivery. Real time transcoding enables MySpace to support several different handsets requiring different combinations of codecs, bit rates, and resolutions.

For MySpace Mobile users, their uploaded videos and premium content, including branded channel such as TMZ, National Hockey League, National Geographic, The Onion, College Humor, etc., are now available on mobile devices. Since MySpace transcodes video on-demand, users won’t need to store the entire MySpace video library in multiple mobile formats, saving hardware, energy and storage resources.

The MySpace mobile video service will be rolled out in beta globally, with support for the most popular streaming-enabled mobile devices.

MySpace mobile users are advised to consult their mobile data plan to avoid excessive fees. MySpace mobile video quality, as with all mobile services, is dependent on individual device capabilities as well as network speed and connection.

Automatically Login to Facebook Account using Gmail or Yahoo Account

Facebook has come up with a new technique where you can automatically login to it with the account you are currently using.

In the above snap shot, you can see the linking of Facebook with your various accounts.

Now, if you login to any of the services like Google, Yahoo, MySpace, your account in Facebook will automatically login to the currently working account. This means that next time there is NO NEED need to type your login ID and password all over again!

How to set up this privilege:

To set up this privilege between Facebook and Yahoo/Google Accounts, just

Go to Facebook -> Accounts Settings
Click on â€œAdd a new linked accountâ€.
This will login automatically to the current service you are using.

Facebook will let you link only one account at a time. For example, if you are sending an email via Gmail to anyone and using Yahoo answers, then it will ask you which account to link and thus, you can link to the respective account.

Orkut SMS notifications of scraps – Beneficial for spammers ?

This would be dream come true for heavy scrappers and fan of orkut who spend their day and night there. After Orkut added sms notification of scraps you get it anytime somebody does it on yours. However its a charged service which makes it little uncomfortable for users who gets huge scrap.

I am not sure how much people will be charged for it but I am very sure heavy users wont go for it , I guess then who will need it ? Moreover imagine a person who gets smapped on scraps, Guess he will be paying money for spams more then scraps. So my Question is ? Do you use SMS notification of Orkut Scraps ?
